My Most Recent Amex Offer Redemption

One of my favorite perks of my American Express Blue Cash Preferred, besides getting 6% back on grocery purchases (Hannaford has a nice selection of gift cards 🙂 ) is the American Express offers. There are many American Express cards that receive these offers and they are a great way to save even more money on things you would already purchase, on top of the rewards you earn for your purchase.

The other day, American Express added some really good AMEX offers:

  • Home Depot- Spend $75 or more get $15 in statement credit ( you can purchase 3rd party gift cards and receive credit)
  • Whole Foods- Spend $75 or more get $10 in statement credit ( you can purchase 3rd party gift cards and receive credit)
  • Wag.com- Spend $50 or more get $10 in statement credit
  • Hilton Garden Inn- Spend $150 or more get $30 in statement credit

There are so many other offers as well, but my most recent purchase was from Wag.com. I loaded the Wag.com, initially for pet supplies (which I recently ordered from as well and ordered 100 lbs of cat liter for $40), but after reading an article by Mommy Points, this could also be used at soap.com among other stores that are related. We needed some things for the house anyways, so this was the perfect time to save even more money buying things for the house.

When I looked at Soap.com through my phone, there was a coupon code for 20% off my first purchase. The coupon code was YAYSOAP. When I went to use my laptop, that coupon didn’t show up on their site. When looking at different household products, there were even e-coupons I could use as well to save even more money!

To make things even better, going through topcashback.com, I was able to find 5% in cash back on top of the AMEX offer! Sometimes you will not get the extra bonus cash back if use promo codes not found on the website or on the cash back portal site. Always worth trying though!

So my order from Soap.com was:

Went right over the $50, exactly what I needed to trigger the Amex Offer!
Went right over the $50, exactly what I needed to trigger the Amex Offer!

My total without any discounts would have been $67.04! I was able to save $12.62 with my 20% off coupon code plus another $4 with the manufacture e-coupons directly on their site. Total saved so far was 16.62.

My goal was to hit the $50 mark to get my $10 statement credit on my American Express, which I was able to do J.

I used a cash back portal, which did successfully go through with an extra 5% savings (saved another $2.52)

My savings breakdown:

  • Amex offer- $10
  • 1% earning on purchase- $0.50
  • Manufacture coupons- $4
  • 20% off coupon code- $12.62
  • Shopping portal- $2.52

Total savings: $29.64

At the end of all of my savings, I spent $37.40 for a ton of items I needed to buy anyways. I paid 55% of the actual cost! I think that’s pretty awesome for stuff I needed anyways. But how does that compare to ordering from other stores? I checked Target.com and Walmart.com for the same (as close as I could get for some) to see if I truly saved money.

Before all the savings, Soap.com is the most expensive, I bet they inflate their prices and give coupons to bring prices down. Giving discounts and coupons makes them equal with Target’s pricing. The Amex offer for Soap.com makes the redemption even better, but without that, Target would probably be where I would order from.

The next AMEX offer I plan to use is at Home Depot. We plan to do some work around the house, so I can either purchase Home Depot gift cards to use at a later date, or buy 3rd party gift cards (like Starbucks!). Maybe I’ll get a mix of both? Getting $75 worth of gift cards for only $60, I’ll take it!

These AMEX offers are an amazing way to save extra money on purchases you would already be making.

How do you use your Amex Offers? How much have you saved using Amex offers?
